Obviously the biggest and most practical reason to skip a few weeks is so Chandler Riggs could be up and walking around. This way we can see Carl bond with Michonne (more on that later!), work on getting somewhere with Enid, and generally demonstrate how much losing an eye has helped his maturation process. So We Could Skip the Glenn Drama. We all love Glenn. I think the outcry over his near- death earlier this year made our affections pretty clear. But after so many near- death experiences (another unbelievable one just last week!), it was nice to take a break from the drama. Glenn will be back next week—he’s in the episode 1. Maggie were cozily shacked up while the episode put the focus elsewhere.

For example. But their adventures proved to be more than just fan service. Sure, we all like spending time watching Norman Reedus knock heads together. If Daryl is, as many fear, in danger of getting killed off this season, the character- building moments he shared with Rick in this episode were instrumental for underlining Daryl’s character arc. If he does end up dying by putting his life on the line for someone (maybe even Jesus himself), then the show set that up tidily in this episode. So We Could Meet Jesus.

Comic book fans have been anticipating the arrival of Thomas Payne’s character for awhile now and his first impression did not disappoint. Able to go toe- to- toe with Rick and Daryl (nice kicks, Jesus!), the new kid on the block quickly earned the grudging respect of The Walking Dead’s alpha males. In the trailer for next week, Jesus promises Rick that his world is about to get a lot bigger.

Jesus is a member of the Hilltop Colony—the group of survivors who have been flitting in and out of the periphery all season. For better or worse (worse, guys) it looks like Rick and company are about to officially hook their plot line to the Hilltop.

So Deanna’s Death Could Mean More. If the zombie version of Deanna had died at the hands of her son in the scrum last week, her death would have been lost amid all the carnage. There wouldn’t have been room to mourn Jessie, and her sons, and Carl’s eye and zombie Deanna all in the same episode.

But by putting a little distance between the Alexandria massacre and this act of killing, we got a nice, emotional storyline for Carl, Michonne, and, most importantly, Spencer. Csi Season 5 Episode 22 here. In fact, I would argue this was the most interesting thing the show has done with Spencer yet. So We Could Finally Get to Rick and Michonne.

Just how soon after you’ve chopped off your girlfriend’s hand and watched her and her sons get devoured zombies is too soon to move on to someone new? In Rick’s case, it looks like a couple of weeks of mourning will suffice. But we can’t hold this one against Rick; this coupling has been a long time coming. Andrew Lincoln told The Hollywood Reporter, “We wanted it to be these two grownups and warriors who love and respect each other. That’s a given. And then they get completely surprised in this moment. And then they look at each other and say, .

That made sense to me as someone who she could ultimately connect with this way. And there is such an intimacy that’s grown between them over the course of several seasons that .

But Didn’t. SEASON 1: The first time we’re introduced to a cheeky good- natured pizza delivery boy named Glenn (and his adorable baseball cap), he goes out of his way to riskily save Rick, who gets himself stuck in a military tank surrounded by walkers. His rescue proves successful but leads to Glenn and his group being helplessly surrounded by an endless horde of walkers after their gunshots become the closest thing to a dinner bell for these angelic little flesh- eaters. SEASON 2: A bloated well walker resembling Jabba the Hutt almost kills Glenn and simultaneously makes everyone lose their lunch. SEASON 3: One of the more heartbreaking moments of the show is when Glenn and Maggie are taken hostage at the Governor’s base and separated from one another, with Glenn left to assume the worst about Maggie. And if things couldn’t get any worse, Merle releases a particularly nasty- looking walker on Glenn, who quite literally has his hands behind his back, tied down to a chair.
